Raagini Vijaykumar

Associate

Raagini is a lawyer in the police misconduct team at Robinson Gill. An experienced lawyer, she represents those who have been treated unlawfully by the state.

Actions against the state

Victims of mistreatment under the criminal justice system are often in one of the most vulnerable positions imaginable. Ensuring that fundamental rights are respected within these spaces - no matter what the criminal charge - is vital not only for Raagini’s clients, but for the safety of everyone in our society.

With a wealth of public law experience, Raagini brings a unique skill set to the Robinson Gill team. Challenging the unlawful exercise of police powers, she represents clients in civil claims for compensation against Victoria Police.

Creating meaningful change

Motivated by the role of law and policy in bringing about change, Raagini has focused primarily on social justice issues in her career.  Her career has exposed her to multiple jurisdictions, stakeholders, and levels of government - from studies in New Zealand to roles at the New Zealand Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna and the UK Cabinet Office.

It was her work as a student with the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency which first sparked Raagini’s interest in tackling issues relating to the impact of police misconduct on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities - a concern further developed by her inquest work at the Victorian Coroner’s Court. Joining the Robinson Gill team to work at the forefront of this area, she focuses on both individual outcomes, and on pushing for wider systemic change in Victoria’s police and prison systems.
